Crusoe delivers a pre-developed Wyoming AI data center site to Google: Unite.AI
Crusoe announced on November 6, 2026 that Google had acquired its data center site in southeastern Wyoming, completing Crusoe’s pre-development commitment on the project. The work involved site selection, government approvals and a hybrid energy strategy developed with Tallgrass Energy.
CEO and co-founder Chase Lochmiller characterized pre-construction work as origination, permitting and risk reduction, positioning it for construction and eventual operation. The disclosure therefore marks a transfer of development after such preparations, without the announcement of a new start of construction or operational capability.
Joint development and energy design
Crusoe and Tallgrass initiated the campus through joint development of the energy infrastructure and data center. Their process simultaneously coordinated power system design, data center engineering, site development, and hyperscaler engagement, connecting the electrical plan to the technical and commercial readiness of the campus.
The partners unveiled the project on July 24, 2025 as a 1.8-gigawatt AI data center campus designed for expansion up to 10 gigawatts. These figures describe the announced design and expansion potential. The initial plan combined multiple natural gas-fueled energy sources with future renewable energy developments in the region. It also tapped into Tallgrass Wyoming’s existing water and natural gas resources and the proximity of its CO2 sequestration hub for long-term carbon capture.
The hybrid strategy combines fuel cells, grid electricity and natural gas turbines, with a long-term roadmap for carbon capture through the Tallgrass regional CO2 sequestration hub. The energy project was therefore part of the preparatory package completed before the transfer of ownership.
Google’s data center plan
Crusoe’s revelation came a day after Google announced its first data center in Wyoming, describing a long-term, $17 billion investment in Laramie County with Tallgrass Energy, Black Hills Energy, American Electric Power and Related Digital. The project is under contract with American Electric Power to develop a 702-megawatt fuel cell with carbon capture and storage, using Bloom Energy fuel cells. The carbon capture component is designed for permanent geologic storage at the nearby Tallgrass eastern Wyoming sequestration hub. Google is also buying electricity from gas generators operated by Tallgrass Energy and Black Hills Energy and is evaluating whether Tallgrass’ combined-cycle turbines can be equipped with carbon capture technology. Google said the data center will be air-cooled to minimize pressure on local water resources.
Crusoe’s remaining pipeline
For Crusoe, the transaction concludes a specific role for the site within a broader infrastructure portfolio. Lochmiller said the company has more than 6 gigawatts under contract and more than 40 gigawatts in the pipeline, figures that span its broader business rather than just its Wyoming campus.
The ownership transfer separates the preparatory role Crusoe completed from the data center investment outlined by Google. The site now has an owner whose announced plan includes large-scale fuel cells, carbon capture and air cooling, building on the approval and foundations of hybrid energy. What remains is the conversion of the prepared site and energy plan into construction and eventual operation.
