One of the challenges that designers of humanoid robots face is energy management. Agility Robotics Inc. said today it is working with Nyobolt on a fast-charging battery system for its Digit 5 system. The technology will allow the robot to work more than 20 hours a day, the companies said.

“For our customers, Digit uptime is the business case,” said Daniel Diez, business director at Agility. “Digit 5 will provide more than 20 hours of productive work in a 24-hour day, more than two full shifts. That’s the kind of gain that materially improves the value customers get from Digit and the economics of deploying a fleet of humanoid robots. Nyobolt’s ultra-fast charging technology gets us there, and it’s one of the elements that makes Digit 5 ready for full-scale operation.”

Founded in 2015, Agility said Digit is “the first human-centric, “Made for Work” multi-purpose robot commercially deployed today.” The Salem, Oregon-based company said it has amassed more than 65,000 real-world trades. Last month it released the Digit 5 with new legs and admitted it is considering wheeled locomotion.

Nyobolt builds fast charging batteries

Founded in 2019, Nyobolt said it combined proprietary anode materials, advanced battery cell design and integrated power electronics to enable fast charging, high power density, low weight and extended life cycles. The Cambridge, UK-based company said its technology enables demanding industrial applications and reduces downtime, a key constraint in using robots.

Nyobolt said its patent portfolio and global presence supports AI data center, physical AI and mobility applications, while reducing total cost of ownership. In May 2026, the company reached a $1 billion valuation by raising $60 million including support from Symbotic Inc.

“Nyobolt’s technology was chosen because Digit 5 will need more power from a smaller, lighter package in environments where reliability is not optional,” said Sai Shivareddy, co-founder and CEO of Nyobolt. “Agility sets an exceptionally high standard for what a battery must endure in warehouse and manufacturing environments, and this partnership shows what is possible when ultra-fast charging is designed for the harshest conditions in physical AI.”

Digit 5 offers longer battery life for humanoid customers

Agility described Digit 5 as its first humanoid robot designed to work in close proximity to people safely and at scale. It will include a new battery system that offers 90 minutes of battery life and recharges in just nine minutes. This 10:1 stroke-to-charge ratio is an improvement over the Digit 4’s 2:1 ratio.

The company said this will allow Digit 5 customers to target longer operating windows, more productive shifts and more challenging task sequences. Agility said the battery’s performance, combined with its experience with commercial deployments, will strengthen Digit’s value proposition for warehouse, distribution and manufacturing operations.

Agility said it expects early access to Digit 5 equipped with Nyobolt technology to begin in the first half of 2027. Availability will increase over the next six to nine months, it added.

Agility executives prepare for merger, to speak to RoboBusiness

Agility plans to go public through a merger with special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) Churchill Capital Corp XI. In July, Agility opened a software and capabilities hub in Fremont, California, to accelerate the development of physical AI.

Earlier this month, the company teamed up with FORT Robotics (which is also entering into a SPAC deal) to improve robot safety. Additionally, Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility, joined Project Meridian, a U.S. War Department initiative to investigate the future of warfare and define long-term investment priorities.

At RoboBusiness 2026 next week in Santa Clara, California, Jonathan Hurst, Agility’s co-founder and chief robot officer, will participate in the opening keynote on “The Next 20 Years of Robotics.” On the second day of the event, Pras Velagapudi, Agility’s chief technology officer, will participate in a keynote panel on the “State of Humanoids.” Register now to participate.
