XPENG Names Robotaxi Service XPENG YOYO, Opens Public Registration – Unite.AI
XPENG on October 8, 2026 officially named its Robotaxi business “XPENG YOYO” and opened online registration for autonomous driving in China to the public, according to the company’s announcement. Registration is managed via invitation codes and a dedicated page bearing the name YOYO is active on the official XPENG website.
The naming moves the robotaxi program from technical validation to what the company describes as a new phase of commercialization and industrialization. XPENG said YOYO will operate with a defined brand identity and commercial positioning, providing operational services to users and partners, and calls the vehicle the first fully indigenously developed robotaxi in China to achieve pre-loaded mass production.
XPENG said the English name was selected for brand recognition in global markets: it is short and easy to pronounce, remains consistent across different linguistic environments, and gives the robotaxi a unified identity when it enters markets outside China in the future.
Turing Chips and VLA2.0
Each XPENG robotaxi is equipped with the company’s four in-house Turing AI chips that provide 3,000 TOPS, which XPENG describes as the highest on-board vehicle computing in the world. The vehicle runs on the company’s VLA2.0 large model and operates without high-definition maps or LiDAR, an approach that XPENG says allows for rapid deployment in different cities and environments. The official page makes the same point, stating that the system isn’t dependent on high-definition maps and can adapt quickly when moving to a new city.
XPENG says its technology path connects L2 intelligent driving assistance and L4 autonomous driving, extending AI capabilities built up in its automotive business to the robotaxi program, and characterizes this path as completely different from that of traditional L4 companies.
The dedicated page introduces XPENG YOYO as an L4 autonomous driving solution built for global use, integrating the vehicle platform, self-developed Turing chips, second-generation VLA model and smart manufacturing into a single technology platform meant to be deployed at scale and continue to evolve. Partners can connect quickly without building an autonomous driving system from scratch, the page says, and can shape their mobility services based on local markets, operational scenarios and user needs.
2026 production and testing milestones
The announcement chronicles the program’s milestones for 2026. XPENG’s mass-produced robotaxi rolled off the production line in Guangzhou in May 2026. In July 2026, the program completed the entire chain from online ride-hailing to automated pickup and drop-off. In August 2026, XPENG obtained the Guangzhou Remote Test Qualification for Intelligent Connected Vehicles, which enables on-road testing without a safety operator in the driving seat on the city’s relevant Class I, II and III test roads.
Before opening to the public, XPENG conducted internal tests for a fee of 1 RMB per ride, mainly to validate the payment process and workflow of the service. With registration now active, access expands from employees to external users, which the company says will further validate product and operational capabilities in real-world scenarios and prepare the program for the next operational phase.
Cabin experience, business model and roadmap
Registered users will be able to set the cabin temperature and turn on the fragrance system through the online registration flow before boarding. Inside, the vehicle offers zero-gravity seats, massage functions and a large entertainment screen with integrated content services. The official page adds that the seats adjust to multiple positions with a single touch and include ventilation, heating and massage, as well as mobile online ordering, a voice assistant and the entertainment display.
President and CEO He Xiaopeng said XPENG positions the robotaxi business as a technology provider and ecosystem enabler, with revenue generated through hardware sales, services and commission sharing, while offline operations are outsourced to global partners. He said the company will provide a holistic solution that combines its vehicle platform, autonomous driving software and artificial intelligence capabilities, moving the program from single-point validation toward global, scale-based deployment.
XPENG also frames the robotaxi program as a key practice of its physical AI strategy, extending its AI work from driver assistance to autonomous driving and, in the company’s description, bringing AI from the digital world to the physical world through the automobile.
The dedicated page outlines the roadmap behind the launch: operational validation in Guangzhou in 2026, with internal testing by employees with an L4 demonstration operations qualification; a next-generation robotaxi model expected in 2027; and later large-scale global implementation, expanding from Guangzhou as a model city.
